Bishop of Berwick announcement

Mark & Lindsey Tanner

There was great excitement in the Cathedral on Thursday 1st September as the identity of the new suffragan Bishop of Berwick was revealed by 10 Downing Street at 10am.  The name had been a closely guarded secret, though staff knew that Bishop Christine was going to be bringing a “special visitor” to the Cathedral at 3pm that day.

The Rev Canon Mark Tanner and his wife, Lindsay were made welcome and shown around before having a quick cup of tea in the Lantern Cafe prior to being whisked away to continue what must have been a exhilarating, if exhausting whistlestop tour of the Diocese.

The Archbishop of York welcomed the announcement, and you can read more about Mark here and hear him and Bishop Christine being interviewed by Premier Christian Radio here.

Mark will be consecrated Bishop at York Minster on the 18th October, and installed here in the Cathedral on Saturday 3rd December (at 11.30am – precise time to be confirmed) –  a service to which all are warmly welcome!
