Would you like to join a Chamber Choir?

St Nicholas Cathedral, Newcastle, is recruiting singers to form a voluntary Chamber Choir to sing one full Sunday (Eucharist and Evensong) a month.

“We are looking for people who would be interested in being part of a high standard choir, but can’t commit to the vast requirements of regular Choral Scholarships,” said Kris Thomsett, Assistant Director of Music. “Most Choral Scholars are expected to be at two to three services a week, plus extra rehearsals. If you’re at university or working full time that just isn’t feasible.”

Rehearsals will be on Thursday evenings from 7:00pm until 8:30pm, although they may be shorter some weeks, in the Song School. 75% of rehearsal attendance is required.

The Choir will be taking part in services by January and, if enough people are interested, there is the potential for the choir to be active in the Cathedral by November/December.

“As well as the regular Sunday services, we hope that the Chamber Choir will develop into a more versatile role within the musical life at the Cathedral. We want to widen participation, giving opportunities to those who want to sing in a Cathedral Choir but haven’t been able to for whatever reason.”
