Music at Newcastle Cathedral from September 2017

Mondays at 1.05pm: Lunchtime Recital (featuring the Cathedral’s Phoenix Digital Organ and/or other instrumentalists and singers)

Why not take a break and spend your Monday lunchtime listening to beautiful music in tranquil surroundings? Our free organ recitals take place on Mondays, starting at 1.05pm, and last approximately 45 minutes.

Lunchtime organ recitals throughout September 2017 feature the following guests:

  • 11th September – Henry Websdale, King’s College Cambridge
  • 18th September – Michael Haynes, Hexham Abbey
  • 25th September (Organ and Friends) – Alastair Lord and Kris Thomsett (Trumpet and Organ Recital)

Admission is free to all; there is a retiring collection following the recital to help defray costs. Suggested donation £5.

Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5.30pm: Choral Evensong (sung by the Cathedral Choir or Cathedral Schola Cantorum)

Join us for Choral Evensong, led by the Cathedral Choir (or occasionally, a visiting Choir). A much loved service in the traditional language of the Book of Common Prayer, with a beautiful choral setting, psalms, canticles, anthem, and congregational hymns. Please come and sit in the Quire (the seats nearest the High Altar) where the service sheets and hymn books may be found – or if you prefer simply to listen, you are very welcome to sit in the pews.

Sundays at 10am: Choral Eucharist

We would love to welcome you to Sunday Morning Eucharist – the Cathedral’s main service of the week, when the community gathers to hear God’s word read and preached, and to share Holy Communion together. Hymns ancient and contemporary are sung and in term time the choir sings a choral setting and anthem. Children are welcome at Junior Church during the service, or to explore the activities in our Children’s Area. This service lasts about an hour and a quarter and is followed by refreshments.
