The Feast of Candlemas – Sunday 29 January 2017
On Sunday, 29 January, Newcastle Cathedral celebrates THE FEAST OF CANDLEMAS to mark 40 days after the birth of Mary’s son Jesus.
Although Christmas Day has now passed and the decorations have been packed away, the Church continues to commemorate the coming of Christ and the light that he brings into the darkness until Candlemas Day (this year falling on Thursday, 2 February).
We begin our day of celebration in the Cathedral with a Candlemas Sung Eucharist at 10am, followed by a traditional CANDLEMAS CAROL SERVICE AT 4PM featuring carols sung by the Newcastle Cathedral Choir and readings to once again recall the birth of Jesus Christ and recognise his great impact on world.
We would be delighted if you can join us on Sunday for what promises to be a wonderful, joyous and uplifting celebration from darkness into light.
All are welcome to attend our free Candlemas services.
