New Organ Recital Series 2017

Posted on: September 6th, 2017

We are delighted to announce our new Organ Recital Series beginning this September at Newcastle Cathedral.

We continue our tradition of offering guests a unique, and free, opportunity to hear beautiful music in tranquil surroundings. Our free organ recitals take place on Mondays, starting at 1.05pm, and last approximately 45 minutes.

Our series begins on Monday 11 September and features Henry Websdale from King’s College Cambridge.

Henry is currently an organ scholar at King’s College, Cambridge. As organ scholar, Henry has recorded and broadcast numerous events, including playing for the iconic ‘Carols from King’s’ at Christmas. Henry, who comes from Yorkshire, started his training at Bradford Cathedral, and then at Winchester College as a music scholar. During his school years, he passed both his ARCO and FRCO diplomas by the age of sixteen. Henry was then organ scholar at Salisbury Cathedral during his gap year before taking up his post at King’s.

Our 11 September organ recital will have a screen placed in the nave, so those at the concert will be able to watch Henry play, as well as hear him.

Other lunchtime organ recitals throughout September 2017 feature the following guests:

18th September – Michael Haynes, Hexham Abbey

25th September (Organ and Friends) – Alastair Lord and Kris Thomsett (Trumpet and Organ Recital)

Admission is free to all; there is a retiring collection following the recital to help defray costs. Suggested donation £5.
