We’re still open – please do come in!
We are very excited to be welcoming our construction contractor Historic Property Restoration Ltd onsite this coming Monday 13 January as physical work begins on our National Lottery Heritage Fund project, Common Ground in Sacred Space.
These last few days have seen Cathedral clergy, lay staff and volunteers all mucking in to clear and declutter the Nave in preparation for the works starting …and what an undertaking it has been!
From moving furniture and valuable artifacts into secure storage to decanting numerous chairs and lesser used items into the Cathedral’s refectory… not to mention the hard work of organising the sale and removal of our Victorian pews to interested buyers… all whilst continuing to hold our regular weekly services, welcome numerous visitors to the Cathedral, and provide hospitality for those seeking a hot drink and comfort. The place has been a hive of activity!
And so, from Monday 13 January access to the Cathedral will be via the courtyard on the north side of the building. Once in the courtyard, please enter either, on the right, via St George’s Chapel door (accessible to those with restricted mobility) or, on the left, via the Education Centre door.
Weekly service times remain the same and will continue to take place in the Quire and St George’s Chapel. Sunday’s 10:00am service will take place in the Quire.
Please note that the Cathedral’s car park at the eastern end will be out of use from Monday 13 January onwards.
We’ll be back in touch as soon as we have more information and updates to share with you.
